The baiMobile2020 Bluetooth Smart Card Reader is engineered for Windows Mobile™ based devices such as the Palm® Treo Pro™, Motorola MOTO Q™9c, Samsung Omnia and AT&T (HTC) Tilt 2™. The reader supports standard ISO 7816 smart cards such as the Common Access Card (CAC) issued by the US Department of Defense and the Personal Identity Verification (PIV) issued by other agencies of the US Government. This secure wireless solution permits the mobile user to perform the same smart card authentication functions on a smartphone that are available on a desktop PC. It allows authorized personnel to digitally sign and encrypt/decrypt email and documents, CAC authenticate to secure web sites, portals and servers, and protected databases. The reader also functions as a badge holder with the printed identification features of the card exposed for visual inspection, as seen below.

The reader's radio functions are only enabled when the CAC is firmly inserted into the reader. AES encryption is provided for all data transferred between reader and smartphone. The baiMobile™ solution meets NSA and DISA security requirements for secure Bluetooth communications.

baiMobile®™ Enabling CAC Middleware

baiMobile™ CAC middleware, resident on the smartphone, enables Windows Mobile™ 5.0 and 6.x based platforms to authenticate mobile CAC users. The baiMobile®™ solution has been integrated and used with other Windows Mobile™ security providers such as Good Technology, Inc. for secure messaging, data at rest encryption and mobile VPN.

Device Pairing

The device pairing process involves exchanging a randomly generated Bluetooth pairing key between the baiMobile™ reader and the PDA. This process ensures that the maximum size and strength authentication and encryption mechanisms available to Bluetooth are employed. Cryptographic material is also exchanged to support AES session key negotiation for subsequent encrypted tunnels over Bluetooth connections. Pairing information (Bluetooth and AES related material) are securely exchanged between the smartphone and the baiMobile™ reader over the supplied mini-USB cable.

Security

The baiMobile™ Wireless Smart Card Reader employs Bluetooth security level - Mode 3: link level enforced security with an added AES layer of encryption. It operates in the "non-discoverable" mode at all times - hidden from other Bluetooth devices and rejecting all other pairing requests.
