Device Pairing
With the supplied mini-USB cable, the user controls the pairing process by exchanging the random Bluetooth pairing key. This process utilizes the maximum length Bluetooth pairing key size of 16 random bytes. AES encryption keys are also generated and exchanged over the wired connection to the PDA to avoid the need for a third connected system (typically a laptop) to broker them. This same USB cable can also be used to connect the reader to a desktop computer.
Security
The BAI Wireless Smart Card Reader employs Bluetooth security level - Mode 3: link level enforced security with an added AES layer of encryption, for devices that require both authorization and authentication. The Wireless CAC Reader operates in the "non-discoverable" mode at all times - hidden from other Bluetooth devices and rejecting all other pairing requests. |
